Studio portrait of 2412 Private David Howarth, 29th (later 56th) Battalion of Lidcombe, NSW. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Aeneas (A60) on 30 September 1916. He was killed in action, at Polygon Wood, Belgium on 26 September 1917, aged 21. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
