Description
Studio portrait of 3835 Private (later Sergeant) George Kayess, 2nd (later 1st) Battalion of Lidcombe, NSW. A station hand prior to enlisting, he embarked aboard the Transylvania on 29 March 1916. He was wounded action, at Polygon Wood, Belgium on 26 September 1917. Sgt died of his wounds in the 35th General Hospital, Calais, France on 28 September 1917, aged 21. He is buried in the Les Baraques Military Cemetery, Sangatte, France.
