Studio portrait of 2147 Private David John Wells, 33rd Battalion of Bingara, NSW. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Anchises (A68) on 24 August 1916. He died of pneumonia in the 2nd Casualty Clearing Station, France on 3 December 1916, aged 30. He is buried in the Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension (Nord), France. Pte David Wells is the brother of 5104 Pte Reuben Clarence Wells, (P08624.383) killed in action near Messines, Belgium on 13 January 1918.
