Studio portrait of 20 Private (later Lance Corporal) William Francis Cloke 9th Company Australian Machine Gun Corps of Liverpool, NSW. A salesman prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Benalla (A24) on 1 May 1916. Pte Cloke was killed in action on 10 September 1917 during the Third Ypres campaign, Belgium, aged 27. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the The Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
