Description
Studio portrait of 7310 Private William Frampton Penney 2nd Battalion (later 9th Light Trench Mortar Battery) of Liverpool, NSW. A barman prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard RMS Osterley on 10 February 1917. Pte Penney was wounded in action near Crouy, France on 23 May 1918 and died of wounds at the 47th Casualty Clearing Station, France on 24 May 1918, aged 20. He is buried in the Crouy British Cemetery, Crouy-Sur-Somme, France.
