Studio portrait of 2235 Private (Pte) Gordon Geoffrey Steenson 13th (later 4th Pioneer) Battalion of Liverpool, NSW. A locomotive cleaner prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Wandilla (A62) on 14 June 1915. Pte Steenson, was killed in action on 31 July 1916 during action near Pozieres, France, aged 20. He is buried in the Gordon Dump Cemetery, Ovillers-La Boiselle, France.
