Studio portrait of 4316 Private (later Sergeant) Norman James Upright 3rd (later 2nd) Battalion of Darlinghurst, NSW. A salesman prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Aeneas (A60) on 30 December 1915. He was killed in action on 4 May 1917 during the second battle of Bullecourt, France, aged 25. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.
