Studio portrait of 2473 Private (later Corporal) James Bertram Snelling, 19th (later 4th) Battalion of Liverpool, NSW. A railway porter prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Themistocles (A32) on 5 October 1915. He was killed in action on 22 March 1918 in Belgium, aged 24. He is buried in the Spoilbank Cemetery, Belgium.
