Studio portrait of 1813 Private (later Lance Corporal) Thomas Edward Hilder, 20th (later 56th) Battalion of Ingleburn, NSW. An accountant prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Kanowna (A61) on 19 June 1915. He died of pneumonia at the 6th General Hospital, Rouen, France on 14 November 1916, aged 22. He is buried in the St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France.
