Studio portrait of 4599 Private (later Lance Corporal) Ernest Charles Turner, 2nd Battalion of Cabramatta, NSW. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard RMS Osterley on 15 January 1916. Together with the rest of 16th Platoon, D Company, he was killed in action on 17 September 1915, when several shells hit the old support line at Ypres, Belgium, aged 25. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial (Panel 7), Belgium.
