Studio portrait of 2971 Private James Tait, 58th Battalion of Canley Vale, NSW. A painter prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Afric (A19) on 3 November 1916. He was wounded in action by shrapnel on 5 July 1918, near Villers Sur Ancre, France, and died of his wounds on 15 July 1918 at the 20th Casualty Clearing Station, France aged 23. He is buried in the Franvillers Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
