Studio portrait of 5068 Private Victor William Clarke, 13th Battalion of Smithfield, NSW. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Star of Victoria (A16) on 31 March 1916. He was killed in action near Ypres, Belgium on 10 July 1917, aged 24. He has no know grave and is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
