Description
Studio portrait of 1617 Private Wilfred Bartlett Didcote, (also known as William Didcote), 17th Battalion of Clyde, NSW. A station hand prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Themistocles (A32) on 12 May 1915. He was killed in action on 27 August 1915 at Gallipoli, Turkey, aged 20. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Lone Pine Memorial, Turkey. His brother 194 Sergeant Harry Fifield Didcote was killed in action in Belgium on 12 January 1918. Didcote's older brother 3194 Corporal Albert James Didcote was killed at Loos on 8 October 1915, while he was serving in the 1st Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment.
