Informal portrait believed to be (690) Pte Harry Morgan Rose, 2nd Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse, on horseback
Description
Harry Morgan Rose was born in Wellington, New Zealand in 1882 and was living in Fitzroy, Victoria when he enlisted in the 2nd Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse on 15 January 1902 aged 21 years, 4 months. He had previously served in the Boer War with the 5th Victorian Contingent, being discharged at the end of his 12 months' service on 8 January 1902. He later went on to enlist for five years service with the Australian Naval Force in July 1904.
A handwritten note in ink on the reverse of the matt reads "One of my group Private Rose" likely written by Private James Sumner. See related image of Pte Sumner P08432.001.
