Description
Studio portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) Edgar Thomas Philip, Royal Field Artillery and Royal Flying Corps (RFC). Originally of Nagambie, Victoria, he had followed his brother to England and had enlisted in the British Army while there. An observer in the RFC, Lt Philip flew operations over Roisel, Hargicourt, St Quentin and Bellicourt. Lt Philip was shot down by a Taube aircraft on 18 June 1917 and died along with the pilot Lt Bean. Lt Philip was aged 22. Originally buried in Nachtigall German Cemetery (now the Perth Cemetery), he was reinterred at Strand Military Cemetery, near Ieper, Belgium.
