History / Summary

Efficiency Medal awarded to SX3011 Lieutenant Frederick William Morcom, 2/14 Field Company, RAE, who had served in the Militai before the Second World War. Morcom was born 16 May 1911 at Woodside, SA and enlisted at Adelaide on 20 May 1940. He saw service with 2/14 Field Coy in Lebanon and Syria before returning to Australia and service in New Guinea from late 1942. The Company supported the northwards thrust of the Infantry from Wau and Lae (late 1943 to mid 1944) and were at Aitape by December 1944, and Wewak by mid 1945. In late 1944 Morcom underwent training at the LHQ Bomb Disposal School (Bonegilla) and commanded 5 Bomb Disposal Platoon on Labuan (see image 109107, 109718 and 109696). He was discharged from service on 4 January 1946.
