Collection relating to the Second World War service of 409152 Flying Officer Arthur Selwyn Jones, Royal Australian Air Force, Australia and the United Kingdom, 1941-1942.

Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of one flying log book of Flying Officer Arthur Selwyn Jones, containing entries dated between 16 October 1941 and 23 December 1942. It covers the period of Flying Officer Jones’ elementary flying training, service flying training, advanced flying training, and operational training in Australia and the United Kingdom. This log book contains details such as dates and times of flights, aircraft types and numbers, names of other crewmembers, and purposes of flights. It also contains certificates and assessments of training courses completed by Flying Officer Jones.

History / Summary

Flying Officer Arthur Selwyn Jones enlisted to the Royal Australian Air Force on 19 January 1941, after previously serving with the militia. He undertook his initial pilot training in New South Wales and Victoria, and completed his operational training in the United Kingdom. Flying Officer Jones went on to serve with 3 Squadron, attached to the Royal Air Force Station at Gibraltar. On 5 February 1943, Flying Officer Jones died of an accident in North Africa. He is buried at Le Petit Lac Cemetery, Oran, Algeria.
