Group of recuperating soldiers and nurses inside a hospital ward at St. George’s Hall, Willesden Lane, Brondesbury, Brent, a VAD Hospital where 2762 Private John Sydney Thornthwaite, 30th Battalion, (middle back next to a VAD) was sent to recuperate. Private Thornthwaite was wounded in the elbow on 27 November 1916 in France and was hospitalised in England before being repatriated to Australia in July 1917. In October 1917 he was discharged.
