Description
Studio portrait of 409159 Pilot Officer (PO) William George Lupton, 459 Squadron, RAAF. Lupton, of Alphington, Vic, was a clerk prior to enlistment as an Airman on 19 July 1941. He embarked for South Africa on 2 November 1941 and was appointed to PO on 20 September 1943. PO Lupton was killed in training air operations over Tobruk on 3 February 1944, aged 23. He is buried at the Knightsbridge War Cemetery, Acroma, Libya. This image is taken from "The Ivanarian", a magazine of the Ivanhoe Grammar School in Melbourne, Vic. During the Second World War the school honoured "old boys" who had enlisted and died by including a short biographical piece and in many cases a portrait.
