Description
Studio portrait of VX109749 Private (Pte) Mark Holden, 2/12 Battalion. A clerk from Nathalia, Vic, in the Citizen's Military Forces (CMF), Holden enlisted on 7 October 1942. Pte Holden was killed in action in Papua on 20 January 1943 in Papua, aged 21. He is buried at Port Moresby (Bomana) War Cemetery, New Guinea. This image is taken from "The Ivanarian", a magazine of the Ivanhoe Grammar School in Melbourne, Vic. During the Second World War the school honoured "old boys" who had enlisted and died by including a short biographical piece and in many cases a portrait.
