Description
Studio portrait of an Australian soldier identified as 'Sid Smith', probably 7816 Private (Pte) Sidney Erskine Smith, 35th Battalion of Mosman, NSW. A clerk prior to enlistment, Private Smith embarked from Sydney on HMAT Nestor on 28 February 1918. He was wounded in action on 28 August 1918, and recuperated at Warrington in England. He rejoined his unit on 3 December 1918, and eventually arrived home in Australia on 19 August 1919.
