Description

Collection relating to the Second World War service of 66635 Leading Aircraftman Cecil Richard Henry Evans, Royal Australian Air Force, New Guinea and Australia, 1942-1945.

Wallet 1 of 1 – Collection consists of one diary of Leading Aircraftman Evans and one play script. The diary contains brief entries dated between 12 August 1942 and 15 August 1945. In his diary, Leading Aircraftman Evans writes about leave, being posted to Port Moresby, receiving mail, his camp being subject to air raids, attending or performing in concerts, transferring to Milne Bay, being on night duty and driver duty, the destruction caused by enemy bombs, his trench being full of spiders, missing his wife, and being transferred to Australia to serve. The diary also includes names and addresses of acquaintances, notes regarding the air force and his service, a loose identity card and a loose prayer card. The four-page typed play script, titled 'Cinderella’s Ball', is believed to have been written and performed by Leading Aircraftman Evans and fellow servicemen while stationed in Port Moresby.
