Description

The funeral of VX13755 Brigadier (Brig) Basil John Andrew, Deputy Adjutant General, AIF HQ Middle East. A veteran of the First World War, Andrew re-enlisted in April 1940 aged 45. He died of illness at Alexandria on 28 April 1941 and was buried with full military honours at Chatby Military and War Memorial Cemetery. Note the photographer standing on the wall in the background, possiby the cinematographer Damien Peter Parer, whose footage of the funeral is now in the Memorial's National Collection at F01081.
