Description

Outdoor portrait of four sailors probably at HMAS Cerberus within a year of their enlistment in the RAN. Identified left to right; 22162 Cook (O) Clifford John Chamberlain; D T A Moon (believed to be 22222 John Terence Albert Moon; T McQuord (believed to be 22160 Assistant Steward Leslie Iver McQuoid); 22218 Shipwright 4th (later 3rd) Class Francis James Kell (crouched in front), HMAS Perth. Shipwright Kell and Cook Chamberlain were later posted to HMAS Perth and both were presumed killed on 1 March 1942 when HMAS Perth was sunk in the Sunda Strait by Japanese destroyers during the Battle of the Java Sea.
