Studio portrait of Mrs Ruby Taylor and her daughter Lorna Gabrielle Taylor. Mrs Taylor's husband ...
Description
Studio portrait of Mrs Ruby Taylor and her daughter Lorna Gabrielle Taylor. Mrs Taylor's husband 3437 Private (Pte) Albert Ernest Taylor, 2nd Pioneer Battalion, of Barwon Downs, Vic, was killed in action on 22 September 1917 by a shell explosion at Westhoek Ridge, near Ypres, Belgium. This is one of two photographs (see also P08863.001) sent by an army chaplain to Mrs Taylor with a letter dated 3 October 1917. The chaplain explained that the photographs : "...were found in the pay book of your husband and handed to me...it looks as if your dear good man was caught by a shell over the heart...".
