Studio portrait of 4070 Private (Pte) George Scrivener, 11th Battalion, of Gippsland, Vic. A mill hand prior to enlistment he embarked from Fremantle, WA, with the 12th Reinforcements on board RMS Mongolia on 22 November. Pte Scrivener was killed in action in Belgium on 20 of September 1917, aged 27. He has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the The Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
