Description

Studio portrait of 594 Private (Pte) Albert Bell. A labourer from South Melbourne, Victoria prior to enlistment, Pte Bell embarked with C Company, 31st Battalion from Melbourne on HMAT Wandilla on 9 November 1915. Later serving in France he was gassed and evacuated to England. Due to the severity of the gas poisoning he returned to Australia on 21 March 1919 and medically discharged. Still suffering from the effects of the gas poisoning he passed away on 25 December 1920 and was buried in the Coburg General Cemetery, Victoria. See also DA122162.
