Studio portrait of 1910 Pte Edwin Rupert Stalling, 33rd Battalion, of Tenterfield, NSW, son of Frederick Augustus and Elizabeth Anne Stalling, brother of 184 Pte Robert John Stallling (RTA) and 185 Pte William Aaron Stalling (KIA). A motor driver prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Port Sydney (A15) on 4 September 1916. He died at the 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station, France on 1 July 1917 from wounds received in action on 30 June 1917 at Messines, France, aged 30. He is buried in the Trois-Arbres Cemetery Steenwerck, France.
