Pre enlistment studio portrait of QX23831 Private (Pte) Horace Henry (Bub) Lowe, 2/12 Field Ambulance, Australian Army Medical Corps , of Toowoomba, Qld. He enlisted from Brisbane on 22 September 1914. Pte Lowe was one of the 268 people who lost their lives when the hospital ship Centaur sank after it was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine off the Queensland coast on 14 May 1943. His name is commemorated on the Sydney Memorial.
