The Lord Mayor of Sydney, Alderman Stanley Sadler Crick unveils a plaque on one of the gun ...
Description
The Lord Mayor of Sydney, Alderman Stanley Sadler Crick unveils a plaque on one of the gun turrets on HMAS Sydney. The commemorative plaque was presented to the crew of HMAS Sydney following a successful campaign in the Mediterranean. The following day her crew, commanded by Captain John Augustine Collins (far left and partly obscured), were given a welcoming parade in Martin Place and were later feted with a civic reception and luncheon at Sydney Town Hall. On 20 November 1941 the Sydney was sunk with the loss of all hands after a battle with the German raider Kormoran. (For view of plaque see P08917.013)
