The commander of HMAS Sydney Captain John Augustine Collins leads the crew in three cheers after an address by an unidentified naval officer. The Sydney has returned to its home port following a successful campaign in the Mediterranean. The following day her crew were given a welcoming parade in Martin Place and were later feted with a civic reception and luncheon at Sydney Town Hall. On 20 November 1941 the Sydney was sunk with the loss of all hands after a battle with the German raider Kormoran.
