Description

The crew of HMAS Sydney led by its commander Captain John Augustine Collins prepares to march down Martin Place following the ship's return from a successful campaign in the Mediterranean. The march was followed by a civic reception and luncheon at Sydney Town Hall. On 20 November 1941 the Sydney was sunk with the loss of all hands after a battle with the German raider Kormoran.
