Studio portrait of 174 Private (Pte) Stanley George Mortimer, A Company, 42nd Battalion, of Eureka, NSW. A farmer prior to enlistment he embarked from Sydney on board HMAT Borda on 5 June 1916. In early April 1917 Mortimer was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal (L Cpl). L Cpl Mortimer was killed in action 4 October 1917 at Passchendaele, Ypres, aged 25. His name is commemorated on the The Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
