A memorial card incorporating a studio portrait of 312 Sergeant (Sgt) George Thomas Rogers, 13th Battalion, of Homebush, NSW. A clerk prior to enlisting in September 1914, George Thomas Rogers was promoted the rank of Corporal (Cpl) on 1 October 1914.He embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT Ulysses (A38) on 22 December 1914. Cpl Rogers served at Gallipoli where he was promoted to Sergeant and twice wounded in action. In January 1916 he was promoted to Sergeant Major and in May 1916, in Egypt, to Warrant Officer (WO). In June 1916 WO Rogers arrived with his unit for service in France. He was promoted to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant (2nd Lt) on 25 July 1916. 2nd Lt Rogers was wounded in action at Pozieres, France, on 7 August 1916 and died of his wounds on 17 August 1916. He was 24 years of age. His younger brother 4669 Private Harold Eldridge Rogers was killed in action at Pozieres between 22 and 25 July 1916, aged 20.
