Studio portrait of 4041 Private (Pte) Francis Harold Ireland, 3rd Battalion, of Alexandra, NSW. A brass finisher prior to enlistment he embarked with the 12th Reinforcements on board HMAT Medic (A7) on 30 December 1915. Pte Ireland was killed in action on 3 November 1916, aged 29. He has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France.
