Studio portrait of 4922 Private (Pte) William Thomas Tear, 6th Battalion, of Footscray, Vic. A stonemason prior to enlistment he embarked with from Melbourne witjh the 15th Reinforcements on board HMAT Witshire (A18) on 7 March 1916. Pte Tear was tacken on strength and transferred to the 5th Pioneer Battalion on 16 April 1916. Tear died of wounds in Vaux, France, on 10 May 1917, he was 22 years of age. He is buried at the Vauxl Hill Cemetery, France.
