Studio portrait of NX31495 Private (Pte) Paul Schutte, 2/20 Battalion, of Peak Hill, NSW. He was a tractor driver prior to enlisting in June 1940. Pte Schutte's unit served in Malaya from February 1941 until the fall of Singapore to the Japanese in February 1942. Pte Schutte became a prisoner of war and was interned in Changi prisoner of war camp before being sent to Japan. He died of beri-beri in Japan on 19 December 1944. Pte Schutte was 26 years of age.
