Studio portrait of 2770 Private (Pte) Mountford Thomas (Monty) Clarkson, 45th Battalion, of Marrickville, NSW. A grocer prior to enlisting in July 1916, Pte Clarkson embarked from Sydney with the 6th Reinforcements on board HMAT Ceramic ( A40) on 7 October 1916. He was killed in action at Messines, Belgium, on 8 June 1917. Pte Clarkson was 22 years of age.
