Informal portrait of 1638 Private (Pte) Patrick Cassidy, 60th Battalion, of Templestowe, Vic, (seated) and an unidentified soldier. A labourer prior to enlisting in February 1916, Pte Cassidy embarked from Melbourne with the 2nd Reinforcements on board HMAT Port Lincoln (A17) on 4 May 1916. He arrived in France for service on the Western Front on 12 November 1917 and on 30 November he was transferred to the 58th Battalion. Pte Cassidy was killed in action on the Somme, France, on 19 January 1917. He was 27 years of age.
