History / Summary
Ellen Jean Imlay was already working as a nurse in Glebe Point when she enlisted as a Staff Nurse with the Australian Army Nursing Service in March 1915, aged 33. She listed her mother as her next of kin. She embarked with her unit from Fremantle, Western Australia, on board A62 Wandilla on 25 June 1915.
She saw service in both Egypt and France, as well as serving on Hospital Transports. Sister Imlay returned to Australia in February 1919.
Her brother, Captain Norman George Imlay, served with the 48th Battalion and was awarded the Military Cross in October 1917.
