Studio portrait of 2188 Private (Pte) Daniel Arthur O'Brien, 17th Battalion, of Wangaratta, Vic. A labourer prior to enlistment he embarked from Sydney, NSW on board HMAT Argyllshire (A8) on 30 September 1915. Pte O'Brien was killed in action on 20 September 1917. He has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. The insciption on the back of the photograph reads "with love to Bess [Bessie Brasington], from Dan O'Brien".
