Studio portrait of 4060 Private (Pte) Arthur Henry Beddows, 17th Battalion, of Sydney, NSW; formerly of Tavenni, Fiji. He was a clerk with the Commission of Works Department, Fiji, prior to enlisting in October 1915. Pte Beddows, and his brother 4061 Pte George John Beddows, also 17th Battalion, embarked from Sydney with the 10th Reinforcements on board HMAT Star of England (A15) on 8 March 1916. Arthur Beddows was killed in action at Bullecourt, France, on 3 May 1917, aged 23 years of age. His brother 4061 Corporal George John Beddows was killed in action at Villers- Bretonneux, France, on 18 July 1918, aged 25.
