Studio portrait of three brothers 1064 Private Norman Stanley Smith (Left), 3rd section, Australian Railway Troops (later 59th Company (Australian) Railway Operating Division RE); 3281 Lance Corporal Charles Robert Smith (middle), 28th Battalion; and 2073 Corporal George Edward Smith (later MM), 16th Battalion (Right). Charles Smith embarked from Fremantle WA 18 January 1916 with 7th Reinforcements. A seaman prior to enlistment Smith served on the Western Front, later transferring to 51st Battalion. He was killed in action 3 September 1916 in Pozieres, France and was 19 years of age. Norman and George returned to Australia in 1919.
