Grey, Maxwell David (H1953, Able Seaman, RAN)
Description
Transcript of oral history interview between W G Jay and former Able Seaman Maxwell D Grey, relating to Grey's RAN service. Grey's service aboard the HMAS Adelaide is described, and his brief posting to HMAS Armidale is mentioned. Much of the manuscript focuses on Grey's experiences serving on HMAS Australia. The nature of life on ship is recollected, including down-time, peace-time service and combat service. The interviewee also recollects his memories of the kamikaze attacks on HMAS Australia in the battle of Leyte Gulf. Some aspects of the Grey's life post-war are also examined.
