Informal portrait of Captain Henry Hume Turnbull, Australian Army Medical Corps (AAMC) on the dock prior to embarkation for service overseas with the 1st Australian General Hospital (1 AGH). Captain (later Major) Turnbull was a physician from Toorak, Victoria, when he applied for a commission in the AAMC at the outbreak of war. He left Australia with the first medical contingent on the hospital ship HMAT Kyarra. He saw service in Egypt, then in France with 1 AGH. He returned to Australia in 1918.
