Description
Souvenir studio portrait of 1713/1754 Private (Pte) George Frederick Gibson (alias Gilson), A Company, 1st Battalion. Pte Gibson, an enginner from East Maitland, NSW enlisted in January 1915 under the alias Gilson, serving with the 1st Battalion at Gallipoli. Wounded, he was repatriated to Australia and discharged in March 1916. He re-enlisted in the Camel Corps in January 1917, using the name Gibson, and served in the Signal Squadron of the ANZAC Mounted Division, before transfering to the Australian Airline Section. He returned to Australia in 1919.
