Description

Untitled memoir by Lt. P.H. Handel RAN relating to his service during the Second World War and after. The manuscript first details the author's experiences on the trip to England from Australia and initial postings on Royal Navy Destroyers, including being involved in the pursuit of the Bismarck's support ships. The author's experiences of being posted in West Africa are described followed by the experiences of officer training. The author's posting on an anti-submarine warfare ship, and his experiences on board are described. The training to be a metrological officer is briefly touched on, as it the author's return journey to Australia, via South Africa. Finally the manuscript examines the authors experiences on being posted to the South West Pacific Area aboard the HMAS Manoora, including landing troops at Morotai. The author's experiences of the immediate post-war environment before his discharge are also included.
