Description

Studio portrait of 6559 Private (Pte) Delmyr Gee Gosper, 36th Battalion, of Meranburn, NSW. A farmer prior to enlisting in August 1916, Pte Gosper embarked from Sydney with the 19th Reinforcements on board HMAT Wiltshire (A18) on 7 February 1917. After further training in England, he arrived in France for service on the Western Front on 23 August 1917. Pte Gosper was killed in action at Passchendaele, Belgium , on 11 October 1917. He was 22 years of age. His brother 2182 Sergeant Vincent James Gosper, 45th Battalion, was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in 1918 and returned to Australia in July 1919.
