Ring made from a piece of an aircraft with a small love heart soldered to the band.

History / Summary

Associated with the service of Aircraftsman 25715 Percy Lloyd 'Mick' Don who was born on 27 July 1916 in Casino, NSW.

Don completed his qualifying certificate at Casino Public School before moving to the Gold Coast, Qld. Here, he undertook an apprenticeship as a mechanic working at Dobson's Garage, Coolangatta. After qualifying, he went on to earn his first class mechanics' ticket.

He enlisted for service in the RAAF in Brisbane on 16 May 1941 and was sent for recruit training to 3 Recruit Depot at Sandgate. After completing his initial training, he was sent to 3 Service Flying Training School on 10 June.

Don suffered an internal injury later that year and after refusing treatment, was sent to RAAF Headquarters at Archerfield on 21 November for discharge. He was discharged on 28 January 1942 as medically unfit.
