Studio portrait of Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) James William Clark DSO, 30th Battalion, of 'Braeside', Waratah, New South Wales. A ships chandler prior to enlistment he embarked from Sydney, NSW, aboard HMAT Beltana (A72), 9 November 1915. He was Commanding Officer of 30th Battalion he was mentioned in despatches on several occasions. Later, whilst commanding the 8th Infantry Brigade he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO). Lt Col Clark continued to serve in the AIF until 1922.
